Privacy Policy

What the App Does: Ditch : Dopamine Detox helps reduce screen time by detecting when a distracting app is in the foreground and showing an intervention screen with choices (Resist / Delay / Override). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles data. The majority of the App works entirely on your device. No accounts, logins, signups, PINs, or biometrics are used.

Data Collection

We collect no personal information (PII). We do not collect your name, email, phone number, advertising IDs, precise location, or any other personal or sensitive data. Core app logic and usage data (session history, intervention choices, screen time stats) stay entirely on your device.

Referral Program

The App includes an optional referral program that unlocks Focus Insights (advanced analytics). If you participate, the following anonymous data is stored on Google Cloud Firestore:

• A randomly generated referral code (not linked to your name, email, or any personal identifier)
• Your referral count (how many friends used your code)
• Whether you received a referral and your unlock expiry date

The App uses anonymous Firebase Authentication to associate your referral data with your device. This creates a random session identifier — no email, password, or personal information is involved. Referral records are stored as anonymous code pairs with no way to identify you personally.

Permissions Used

The App requests the following Android permissions solely for on-device functionality:

• PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access): To detect the currently foreground app locally in order to provide focus interventions.
• SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Draw over other apps): To show an intervention screen with choices (Resist / Delay / Override) over other apps. Depending on device capabilities, this may use system overlay permission or bring a foreground activity to the front. No content from other apps is captured or transmitted.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To send local reminders and service status notifications.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE: To run the focus monitoring service reliably while you use your device.

No usage events, app lists, or overlay interactions are transmitted off the device.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

The App includes optional, opt-in anonymous analytics and crash reporting powered by Google Firebase. This feature is disabled by default and is only activated if you explicitly consent during onboarding or enable it in Settings.

When enabled, the following anonymous data may be collected:

• App usage events (e.g. which screens are viewed, intervention choices made)
• Crash reports and error logs to help us fix bugs
• Basic device information (OS version, device model) for compatibility analysis

We do not collect advertising IDs, precise location, or any personally identifiable information through analytics. You can disable analytics at any time in the App's Settings under Privacy.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. Anonymous referral data is processed and stored by Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions) solely to operate the referral program. If you opt in to anonymous analytics, aggregated, non-identifiable usage data is also processed by Google Firebase to help us improve the App. No advertising SDK is used.

Children's Privacy

The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

The App does not collect personal data. On-device data (session history, stats, preferences) is processed locally and can be removed by uninstalling the App or clearing its storage in Android settings. Anonymous referral data stored in Google Cloud Firestore is protected by Firebase security rules and is not publicly accessible.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post updates on this page with an updated effective date and show a clear in‑app notice on the next launch after an update. For any material changes involving data collection, sharing, or new sensitive permissions, we will provide a prominent in‑app disclosure before the change takes effect and, where required by Google Play policies, request your consent.
